They tell you not to take Hwy 1 for a reason.

We had a different plan for today but decided to go to Acadia National Park, instead of our first try at a Harvest Host. Both choices would give us essentially no services so on that front it was macht nicht. However, it gets us a bit closer to our next day in Canada, Bay of Fundy.

On the way we chose to go hwy. 1. This is coastal but you can’t see much of the coast. We knew that, but we wanted to see the coastal town of Rockland.

It was in fact a quaint little town. We went to the Brass Compass for lunch. The owner had won a Bobby Flay throw down with her lobster club sandwich. We did not have that. However each of us had something that included the lobster salad that would have been on that and they were delicious. Also we liked this lobster so much better and wondered that Alisson’s was over cooked because it was sort of tough. Dan had a great Beer from Baxter Brewing in Lewiston, ME. It was called Stowaway IPA.

We checked out a few shops and galleries and I found a beautiful hand woven scarf. Happy birthday to me! Then we headed back to the car. Here is where I mention that with a little research and luck we found a place in the downtown to park with Seymour! Trust me this would not happen during high season!

One thing you may note in the above pictures is the dandelions. I have decided they are the Maine State flower. I doubt they are but trust me, they are everywhere. Fields of them.

So back to hwy 1…. we often refer to Seymour as the rolling earthquake for a reason; the roads along the coast add new meaning to that. We were lucky and only lost a beer glass. Don’t worry we have lots of them.

Upon arrival to Seawall campgrounds at Acadia, I finally got my lifetime National Parks pass. It is the first day they opened for the season. We went down to the shore for pictures and of course RBG went with us.Wildlife!
